I became interested in body movement, function and massage in my early twenties while living in Girdwood, Alaska, a ski & recreation town. My daily pursuits involving snowboarding, hiking and climbing forced me to recognize the importance of strength, flexibility, nutrition and overall physical and mental balance. I also discovered how much I enjoyed giving a friends sore shoulder or tight muscle a helpful rub. At the time, I had no idea that there were schools that taught massage techniques or massage therapy could be a full-time profession. Years later, after moving to Juneau, I received a gift certificate for a one hour massage. While receiving my first professional massage I knew what I should be doing.
In 2003 I began my massage training and education at the Mueller Collage of Holistic Studies in San Diego, CA. Over the years I have received additional training and education from various sources including the Massage Therapy Institute in Davis, CA and Yoga Instructor training from the Sivananda Yoga Ashram in Grass Valley, CA. I have worked as a full time massage therapist in Juneau since 2003 and have had the privilege of providing extensive medical massage in conjunction with chiropractic care. This has allowed me to gain substantial experience in injury rehabilitation, chronic pain relief and postural re-training. My massage style is based on Swedish, deep tissue work mixed with trigger point work, myofascial release and other modalities, as needed. I have experience with massage in a spa environment and am happy to tailor each massage session to the individual goals and desires of the client.
Outside of the massage office I am an active summer hiker, biker and paddler. For years I was an avid snowboarder and skier but in the fall of 2010 I took some entry level ice skating lessons and fell in love. Now in the fall, winter and spring I spend my free time at the Treadwell Ice Arena. I am involved with with the Juneau Skating Club as a figure skater, coach and board member along with being a board member on the CBJ Treadwell Arena Advisory Board.
